GEO: Getting Your Brand Cited in AI Answers

Generative engine optimization (GEO) explained: how AIRCITE tracks AI answer citations, closes visibility gaps, and helps your brand get cited by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity.

What GEO is, and why it is different from SEO

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how a brand appears inside AI-generated answers, not just how it ranks on a search results page. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity a question in your category, GEO is what determines whether your brand gets named, cited, or ignored.

SEO optimizes for a ranked list of links. GEO optimizes for a synthesized answer with no guaranteed page views, and no traditional ranking position to track. That difference changes what "good" content looks like: it needs to be citation-worthy, entity-clear, and structured so an AI system can extract and attribute it correctly.

How AIRCITE approaches GEO

AIRCITE treats GEO as a continuous measurement-and-improvement loop, not a one-time content push.

Visibility benchmarking. AIRCITE queries major AI answer engines across your target topics and records whether, and how, your brand is mentioned — including which competitors are cited instead of you.

Gap identification. Where your brand is absent from an answer a competitor holds, AIRCITE flags the surface as a GEO gap: a specific query or topic where a citation-worthy page could change the outcome.

Citation-worthy content. AIRCITE drafts pages built for extractability — clear entity definitions, direct answers near the top, structured comparisons, and schema.org markup that helps AI systems parse what the page is actually about. Every draft still goes through your review gate before it ships.

Re-measurement. After a page publishes, AIRCITE checks whether citation behavior actually changed. GEO work is verified the same way SEO work is: by re-observing outcomes, not by assuming the draft worked.

GEO and AEO, together

Answer engine optimization (AEO) — earning direct answers in AI search features and answer boxes — overlaps heavily with GEO. AIRCITE tracks both from the same underlying visibility data, since the same entity clarity and structured content that earns an AI citation also tends to earn an answer-box placement.

What this does not mean

GEO does not replace SEO, and no tool can guarantee a specific citation, ranking, or answer placement — AI answer engines change their retrieval and synthesis behavior on their own schedule. AIRCITE reports what it observes and re-observes; it does not promise placement outcomes.

What AIRCITE does not do

AIRCITE optimizes public marketing and positioning content. It does not provide legal, compliance, healthcare, or certification advice, and its outputs should not be treated as such.
